Prescription and prescribed medication
Definition
A prescription is a printed document made out by a physician to a pharmacist to provide information about medication to be dispensed to or prepared for a patient. Moreover, it provides information for the health care insurance company about the costs that need to be covered.
In the CR, prescriptions are written in Latin and include the following parts.
  • Inscriptio – heading, which informs about the health care facility issuing the prescription together with its identification number.
  • Personalia aegoti – personal information about the patient such as name, address, identification number.
  • Ordinatio – order comprising the prescription itself.
  • Datum – date which is also connected with the validity of the prescription.
  • Sigillum et nomen medici – physician´s name and identification.

5.1.1
Prescriptions
Prescriptions (ordinatio) include:
Praescriptio (compositio) includes the name of the drug or names of individual substances with their amount.
Subscriptio –includes detailed instructions for pharmacists describing the drug adjustment or way of dispensing.
5.1.2
E-prescription
Nowadays, prescriptions are usually provided in the electronic form of a QR code including all the information needed, either as a printed document or a text message sent to the patients´ mobile phone. A copy of the e-prescription is stored in a central database.
